ActionStations ScottOiler and Bohn Body Armor

I can now supply Scottoilers and the full range of Bohn body armor clothing. I've listed the Scottoiler kits and a small writeup below. There is also a small sampling of the Bohn gear and if you are interested in any of their stuff, (they offer something like 30+ items) email me and I will point you towards the full catalog.

I fitted a Scottoiler kit to my Elefant a couple of years ago and have been very pleased with the unit. My chain/sprockets seem to be holding up very well and other than forgetting to check the chain tension I haven't had any problems. Of the 2 quibbles I did have with the unit, both have been answered by updates from Scott. The company now offers a bit thicker oil for those of us in the hotter climates which is the one issue I had. Using the touring kit with the longer gravity head, I have to have the adjustment set at the minimum for the correct oil flow. Changing to the thicker oil will allow me to use the adjustment range. They now also offer a dual feed to oil both runs of the chain. I also had a problem getting the oil drip situated in the center of the run and this accessory kit will rectify that also.

A Scottoiler pays for itself in about 20,000 miles as many Ducati owners burn through a chain and set of sprockets in about 10,000 miles. It just seems to be human nature to let the chain go unlubricated until it really looks "dry". By the time it looks dry, it has been under lubricated for a long time. The cost of a chain and set of sprockets exceeds the cost of the Scottoiler and during those 20,000+ miles you will never have to get down on your knees and spray chain lube on the chain. In addition to the reduced hassle, the Scottoil does not fling off or build-up like the "no-fling" chain lubes. Over the last 25 years I have tried them all including the chain waxes and they all make a big mess. For a point of reference, a chain needs to be spray lubricated *at least* every 200 miles.

A further issue for us Elefant owners is that our countershaft sprocket is Elefant-specific and not as readily available as the standard Ducati units.

Finally, tests have shown that an unlubricated chain can cost you up to 10% of your horsepower due to the increased friction.

Scottoiler Kits.

Scottoiler Universal Kit. This universal kit is fine for an Elefant. Each of the kits comes with a wide array of fitting pieces, tie-wraps, extra tubing for the oil flow etc. These are the best equipped installation kits I have ever seen. A set of excellent instructions come in the kit.

Oil flow photo. On the Elefant, the oil feed can be hidden behind the smalll black chain guard that runs under the swingarm. This is the relative position of the single flow outlet on a standard bike.

Dual feed kit. This kit allows you to get good flow onto both sides of the chain.

Full kit photo. As I said, they include everything you'll need for the installation.

Touring kit. The touring kit adds a larger reservoir which mounts in front of the license plate and extends the refill interval to around 6,000 miles. If you plan on taking trips that exceed 1,000 miles, this is the kit to fit.

Bohn Body Armor.

I wear custom leathers and usually feel pretty protected but they do not have any armor or cushioning built into them. I do know that a get off at more than about 20 miles an hour needs more than leather and my bones to absorb impacts. I plan to start wearing some extra gear from Bohn.

Back Protectors. Bohn make a series of back protectors. This is just one example.

Armored Pants Liners. They also make these type of pants liners to wear under jeans or an unarmored riding suit. If you don't have leathers these would be a good way to go.

Bohn also offer a range of heat dissapating clothing, which I can use since I hate anything over about 72 degrees F.

Coolmax Shirt and Pants. They make under shirt and pants liners than wick away sweat and keep you cooler. This material was developed by the military to keep soldiers cooler while they're all suited up.

Airtex Shirt. They also make armored cool shirts.
