| This is the proper 30 mm measurement for the chain adjustment. You adjust tyhe chain until it will stay 30 mm from the underside of the swingarm as shown here. If you measure for 30 mm of up and down movement the way you do on many other bikes the chain will be too slack. Even a small amount of slack adds to the vibration and also makes shifting less precise. Be sure to measure the slack at the tightest point on the chain. On really stretched chains like I had it is impossible to get a proper adjustment because when you get the tightest part correct as pictured, the slack area is way too slack. All the extra slack ends up either on the top or bottom run of the chain depending on whether you are accelerating or decelerating and the surging and vibration just degrades the ride tremendously. I feel I went about 1000 miles past the point of fair use of the chain and should have changed it out sooner. But for a 2 hour service the improvement was very worthwhile. |
