This shot shows the type of low level fling off I got with the original oil drip. A lot less than you get with spray on lube but still too much was not getting on the chain due to the oil drip getting whacked by the slack part of the chain and getting out of alignment.

I should make the point that over the last 20 years of riding, my spray lube regimen had been to put the swingarm on a stand and apply the spray lubricant after a ride. I would then park the bike. Even using this highly recommended approach I would still get fling off that was unacceptable.

Now when I walk around and see a clean rear wheel on a bike I always look at the chain. Sure enough, dry as a bone. There seems to be no middle ground with spray lubricants, even the wax types fling off and build up a gritty residue.
