Generation 4 Boblbee Aero hardshell backpack.

I first looked into the Swedish designed Boblbee hardshell monocoque backpacks when they came available in the US around 1999-2000. They were the only hardshell packs available then and I needed something for my laptop. But the top cover didn't secure as well as I thought it should to carry a computer and so I didn't get one.

I guess other potential buyers had the same issues because Boblbee has now come out with their new Aero model which addresses all of the concerns I had about the product. It is even better finished than before and has a fully secure top cover locking mechanism.

If you have thought about riding with a back protector and couldn't decide between the large ostentatious over your clothes back protectors and the unobtrusive under your clothes types (which you will always forget to put on) this new Boblbee G4 Aero may be the ticket.

Almost everyone needs a backpack of some sort these days, we just have too much stuff (computers, PDAs, cell phones, GPS etc.) to lug around. And the average backpack is always blowing in the wind when empty and pulling down when loaded. The Boblbee does neither. Since it buckles close to your body it is always supported against your body AND it is always supporting your back due to the design in the lumbar region. It actually feels better to ride with the pack than it does to ride without it. The tapered design spills the wind in a similar fashion to the airfoils built into racing one piece leathers. You just do not feel anything detrimental when wearing the Boblbee either loaded or unloaded. The padding is especially designed to be comfortable and to minimize heat build up against your back.

It comes with the latest full EN 1621-2 certification as a type 2 back protector.

Weighs 4 pounds empty and will hold 20-25 liters. Using the accessory cargo net you can carry a helmet in the curved lower section.

The computer compartment is sized to hold up to a 15 inch by 2 inch thick laptop but I have a 17 inch Powerbook and due to its 1 inch thick design it will also make it inside the Aero.

If you are a skier this pack also has a series of ski oriented accessories. Email me direct for details.
